I've dropped my site files into 'public_html', where do I see my site?
You can access your site by going to http://devio.us/~your_username

How do I send mail via devio.us?
Devio.us allows mail to be sent only with TLS authentication.

I changed my password and can't remember it, could you reset it please?
No we can't, but you can. Just visit our shell password reset site and fill out the form.

I can't remember my database username/password, halp?
The initial registration email (if accepted) contains all of the account details, including database username and password. If you have lost this as well, contact admins@devio.us.

Why are my processes disappearing?
You silly goose, thats because you probably didn't read the usage policy. We have developed a robot called 'bgkd' that smites all of those that imagine that their background processes will continue running for much longer than 5 minutes.

Why can't I login to the forums using my shell username & password?
Easy, because the two aren't connected in any way. To link the two logins would pose a serious risk for our users, not to mention excluding non-deviants from the forums.

But your mighty 'bgkd' robot is mistaken, I'm legit!
Foolish mortal... well.. nevermind, there's a small chance that 'bgkd' could be wrong and did indeed kill your process due a bug in our code. If thats the case, email admins@devio.us and we'll see to stop the injustice.

I want to run background processes (and be really cool), how do I go about this?
You can donate monthly $2 or $3, depending on whether you want 1 or 2 background processes. Visit the services page to get more details and/or sign up. If you do upgrade, make sure you email admins@devio.us so we can adjust your account status.

I've donated, however my background processes are still disappearing, what's going on?
Your account was probably not upgraded - contact admins@devio.us and let them know you're upset.

What do you use the donations for?
We are simply trying to offset the costs of hosting and/or server upgrades. Moreover, they are for the time and effort we spend in approving accounts, writing custom code to make the service better and policing the servers. You would be surprised how much manpower goes into this project.

I'd like to host a domain for my site, is this possible?
Yes, but we review domain requests on a case by case basis. Send your request to admins@devio.us and we'll see what we can do.

I am trying to develop something, but some libs are missing. What do I do?
Contact admins@devio.us and let us know what you need to have installed.

I can't get [insert software] to compile under OpenBSD. Do you guys plan on offering Linux shells?
No. There are hundreds of other hosts offering Linux accounts and you should look elsewhere. This project is centered around OpenBSD and it will stay this way.

Why did you choose OpenBSD for your main server?
Some of the admins have a weird fascination with Theo de Raadt and/or *BSD. Some also like the enforcement of standards, the additional security and the blowfish logo. Truth be told, we are devout OpenBSD advocates - we could not imagine running this service on any other OS.

I'm running out of space, can I get an increase?
Present your case to admins@devio.us. Note that all premium accounts get 1GB of space.

Do you have phpMyAdmin?

Do you plan on offering any other database access besides MySQL?
No. MySQL, for better or worse has become a standard and we are ok with it.

I need another database, help!
All standard accounts come with 1 database. Premium accounts can have up to 5 databases.

What qualifies as a 'background process'?
Any process that is detached and/or stays running after you've logged out. For more info on usage policies, refer to usage policy.

What is your stance on 'screen' and 'tmux'?
Standard accounts are allowed to run it, however you may not detach. If you wish to detach, upgrade to a premium account.

I got banned after running a BNC :(
You probably didn't read our usage policy. If you feel you were wrongly banned, contact admins@devio.us.

I'm a turkey and accidentally deleted some important files, do you have any backups?
You should be more careful. We do however perform nightly rsync's - contact admins@devio.us and ask nicely.

I want to hang out and meet like-minded individuals! How?
You can either visit our forums and/or jump on irc.freenode.net #devious!

I have some ideas/suggestions/concerns about the site/server, who do I contact?

Can I become an admin on devio.us?
Probably not. However, some of the team members are known to accept bribes in the form of cakes, cigarettes and fine wines.
